Our shoes are everywhere. Our flip-flops are great at floating over long distances. Kenya has found a wonderful way to sculpt new vibrant artworks from old dilapidated discarded flip-flops. Ocean Sole Africa INC brings in the old flip-flops from the coast, cleans them up and shapes them into wonderful figures (many of which are animals). Here is the dolphin collection. Here is the manta ray collection. Sea Star Beachwear also provides a platform on which to purchase these works of art. There are more options, but here is the turtle and the octopus. The impacts are not insignificant. This program provides income to nearly 100 low-income families. In 2017 they recycled over 500,000 flip-flops. They also contribute funds back into the education and conservation. What’s not to love?!
