Hey, team.
Topher White. He is an engineer, physicist, CEO, and wants to use your old tech for a new purpose. The Rainforest Connection uses retrofitted donated cell phones to listen for illegal logging activity in rainforests. They slap (technical term) on a small solar panel and listen for chainsaws. If a chainsaw is heard, a signal pings a message to a team that can take action. How cool is that?! Here is the National Geographic video of his presentation. Here is his Economic Forum profile. Here is the donation page for the Rainforest Connection. If nothing else, share this information with your eco-friends. And for that matter, share it with everyone you know! Let’s save the rainforest one old cell phone at a time.
Cheers!
